Presbyterian Hurricane Ike Recovery

De Leon Ct., Rosharon

During Hurricane Ike, this family of 7 felt their 2 bedroom, 800 square foot home shudder as violent winds, heavy rain, and tornadoes ripped through their farming community. The father of this family was a 1974 refugee from Vietnam, where he was recognized for Valor by the United States Army for his role in protecting American troops during the fall of Siagon, also during which he became permanently disabled.

The project to repair this home and restore the family’s life began in mid January with replacing the roof and demolishing the interior and exterior walls down to the studs. During demolition, the team battled dry-rot and a great deal of termite damage. After demolition, the volunteer team has redesigned the interior to include a third bedroom and a utility room extension.
