Presbyterian Hurricane Ike Recovery

Avenue O, Galveston

To make a better life for their four children, the Husband and Wife of this family immigrated to the US and settled in the Galveston area. The family purchased a 2 story home built in 1910, which also is home for their nephew and 20-month-old granddaughter. Currently, their oldest son is a successful professional in the San Antonio area, their oldest daughter is studying business and working full time to help support her little girl, the nephew is in law school, the younger son is pursuing an engineering degree, and their youngest daughter is an honor student in high school. This family is committed to academic achievement.

Hurricane Ike hit this family’s home hard. The storm flooded the downstairs, put holes in the roof, destroyed their appliances, destroyed their HVAC system, wrecked the original cast-iron plumbing, and blew out many of the home’s windows. Volunteer teams from churches all across the country and Canada are working to repair the 100 year old home and help this family build a better life.
